The 8th Grade Volunteers at Double H Ranch

On Friday, November 3, the 8th grade participated in a service day at the Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne. Double H Ranch provides specialized programs and year-round support for children and their families dealing with life-threatening illnesses. Students were welcomed to HH and taught about the history of HH by Board Member, Dr. Dennis McKenna ’84 and CEO, Mr. Max Yurenda. They then, broke up into groups to help clean up the grounds. The class worked for hours in the rain raking, clearing, bagging and hauling sticks and leaves into a truck to be taken away.

Varsity Football Team Volunteers at the Buddy Walk

On Saturday, October 14, players from varsity football team volunteered at the 21st Annual Capital Region Buddy Walk held at Schenectady Central Park to benefit the Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center, a division of the Center for Disability Services. Our student-athletes helped Anne Costigan, Deputy Executive Director of Center for Disability Services to set up for the Buddy Walk.

Awan Jenkins ’18 Selected for All-State Ensembles

Awan Jenkins ’18 has been selected to the All-State Instrumental Jazz Ensemble and the Symphonic Band of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA).  Last spring over 6,500 sophomores and juniors from across the state of NY prepared All-State evaluations in hope of being selected. “We are very proud of Awan for this outstanding accomplishment,’’ said Sarah Waite, Director of the CBA Music Department. “It is extremely difficult to be selected for these groups as thousands of talented musicians compete for a spot.  That Awan was chosen for two spots, and lead alto at that, is fantastic and a testament to his hard work and dedication. Awan will be an excellent representative of our music department.’’

Gabriel Donovan, A Student Wise Beyond His Years

Gabriel Donovan is an 8th grade student at CBA, an enthusiastic camper at Double H Ranch, and a hero. Double H Ranch, located in Lake Luzerne, was founded by philanthropist Charles R. Wood and actor Paul Newman. Since opening in 1993, it has served over 60,000 children dealing with life-threatening illnesses from around the world. Double H Ranch serves children from ages 6-16, free of charge. Their purpose is to enrich the lives and provide camp experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound.

CBA Inducts Six into the Athletic Hall of Fame

On Saturday, October 7, CBA held a brunch and an induction ceremony for six Athletic Hall of Fame members. Over 95 family members and friends gathered at the Century House to show support and celebrate the success of these athletes. The 2017 inductees include Mike Coffey ’86, Steve Dering ’87, Rick Lombardo ’71, Brian Monahan ’04, Bill Mehleisen, and Chet Smith ’77. CBA presented inductee Bill Mehleisen with the CBA Athletic Hall of Fame Distinguished Service Award. From this point on, the Distinguished Service Award will be named The William Mehleisen Distinguished Service Award.

CBA Welcomes Home Over 125 Alumni

On Friday, October 6, CBA invited all alumni to the 1st Annual Alumni After Party after the Homecoming Football game. Over 125 alumni joined us ranging from the Class of 1954 to the Class of 2017. The cafeteria was filled with alumni and their guests. They enjoyed food and beverages provided by Ed Shea ’00 of 2Shea Catering and live music provided by Tom Hardy. The Alumni After Party was a great success and we look forward to next year!

Honors Night

On Wednesday, October 4, CBA held Honors Night to recognize students’ academic achievements for the second semester of the 2016-2017 school year. Students receive academic awards for cumulative marks in all courses, as well as awards for academic achievements in individual subjects, community service, and musical performance.
