CBA Opens the Year with Flag Raising Ceremony

On Friday, September 8, alumni, family, and friends joined us for our annual Flag Raising Ceremony held to signify the beginning of the 2017-18 school year and remember those who lost their lives 16 years ago on September 11, 2001. During this ceremony, CBA inducted two alumni into the JROTC Hall of Fame. General Steven Spano ’79 and General C. Kelleher ’26 were inducted into the JROTC Hall of Fame and honored for their outstanding contribution to school, service, and country.

8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony

Congratulations to the future Class of 2021. On the morning of June 9, family, friends and faculty gathered in the Edward T. “Ned” McGraw ’50, AFSC Gymnasium to celebrate the Moving Up ceremony for our eighth graders.

Congratulations to the Class of 2017

On Friday, June 2, CBA honored the graduating class of 2017 at our school’s 154th Commencement. As a class, our 82 graduates were awarded with an impressive $16 million in scholarship money.

Valedictorian Andrew DiNovo will be attending the University of Notre Dame, salutatorian Justin Esposito will be attending Northeastern University, and Cadet Colonel Maximilian Jones will be attending Harvard College. The class of 2017 continues CBA’s tradition of 100% college acceptance. Congratulations Brothers!

Graduating Class List and the Awards Received

Mothers’ Review

On Wednesday, May 31, CBA held its Annual Mothers’ Review, a special tradition held to honor graduating seniors and their families. During this ceremony, mothers, aunts, grandmothers and special family members were invited onto the field to receive their son’s sword and officers hat as a token of appreciation. The Brigade conducted a final pass and review as a sign of respect to the departing senior class before formally dismissing the Class of 2017 and taking over the leadership role of the school.

Commissioning Ceremony

On Monday, May 22, CBA held its annual Commissioning Ceremony. The Class of 2018 started going through Leader Selection in January and were measured in seven different categories, ranging from GPA and merits to their ability to influence and train fellow classmates. The top eight went before an interview board made up of administrators, instructors and faculty, after which the board selected the brigade commander and assigned the positions based on their strengths and the needs of the brigade.

Students Inducted Into the National Honor Society

On Wednesday, May 17, 16 students were newly inducted into the National Honor Society, and five students were newly inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. Induction into this prestigious national organization is a compilation of a student’s efforts and achievements in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, service and citizenship.

CBA Competes in the NYS Forensic League State Championship

On the weekend of April 29, five of our students Nate Raia ’18, Victor Pagnotti ’19, Amal Thomas ’18, Jake LaChapelle ’17, and Jake Rento ’17 competed in the NYS Forensic League state championship at Hofstra University. Jake and Jack competed in Humorous Interpretation and both advanced to the semi-finals. Jake took 7th place and Jack took 1st! At the awards ceremony, Jack was congratulated for being a back-to-back NYS Forensic League Champion after winning the Dramatic Interpretation last year. Congratulations to the Forensic Team and Coach Melanie Carroll on a job well done!

The Middle School Participates in Pi Day

In honor of Pi Day on Tuesday, March 14, the middle school students celebrated with games and contests organized by Mrs. Beth Joynt. Ten students participated in the Pi Bee, a competition held to see who can memorize and recite the most digits of pi.

Congratulations to the following Pi Bee winners:

1st place: John O’Keeffe ’22 (182 digits)

2nd place: Josh Richardson ’22 (145 digits)

3rd place: Anthony Zaccaria ’21 (108 digits)

Honorable Mention: Dominic Sementilli ’24 (52 digits)

Alumni Reception in Florida

On March 4 and 5, CBA administrators had the pleasure of once again joining our alumni based in Florida. Thank you to Lynn and Eugene Zielinski ’58 in Marco Island and Nancy and Barron Clancy ’61 in Vero Beach for graciously hosting the two wonderful receptions. CBA alumni got to catch up with each other and hear all the great things happening at their Alma Mater, CBA. We look forward to next year!

Four Football Captains Sign Letters of Intent

On Friday, February 3, a special signing ceremony was held in the Alumni Library for four student athletes to sign letters of intent to play football at the collegiate level. Each of these young men were captains of the 2016 Varsity Football team.

Nicholas DeNicola ’17 has committed to play football at Trinity College. Nick played running back and strong safety for the Brothers. He was named Offensive Player of the Year for the Empire Division and Honorable Mention running back for the All-Star team.

Max Jones ’17 has committed to play football at Harvard University.  Max is the Cadet Colonel at CBA, which is the highest rank in the JROTC program. Max was the quarterback and a defensive back for the football team. He was selected to the first team for the Empire Division and was a 4th team selection as a defensive back for the all-state team. Max is the 2016 recipient of the Brother Aloysius Memorial MVP Award and the Don Crotty ’56 Leadership Award.

John LaMarco ’17 has committed to play football at Union College. John played on both the offensive and defensive line for the Brothers. John was named first team for the Empire Division and was Honorable Mention offensive line for the all-star team. John was the 2016 recipient of the Gene Kelsey Dedication, Determination, and Desire Memorial Award.

Taurian Taylor-Adams ’17 has committed to play football at Trinity College. Taurian was a running back and cornerback for several years. He was named first team for the Empire Division, and was the 2016 recipient of the Polsinello Special Teams Award and received the All Purpose Player of the Year Award.

These young men represent CBA with respect and pride on and off the football field.
